These effects are highly steroid- and receptor-specific, because binding and signalling functions of the closely related human OTR are not affected by P4 itself but by the P4 metabolite 5beta-dihydroprogesterone [1].
Employing biochemical techniques combined with HPLC and TLC analyses, the conversion of progesterone to 3beta,5beta-tetrahydroprogesterone (3beta,5beta-THP) via 5beta-dihydroprogesterone (5beta-DHP) was found in the brain [2].

Associations of NSC 82868 with other chemical compounds

Biochemical analysis together with HPLC and TLC revealed that only the embryonic brain actively produced 5beta-dihydroprogesterone from progesterone [3].
