Disease relevance of Mucinosis, Follicular

CONTEXT: Beginning in 1957, patients have been described with localized alopecia characterized histopathologically by mucin deposition within hair follicles (follicular mucinosis [FM]) [1].
Disease was classified as mycosis fungoides in 28 patients, mycosis fungoides with follicular mucinosis in 2 patients, small or medium-sized pleomorphic CTCL in 2 patients, Sèzary syndrome in 1 patient, and CD30 positive CTCL in 1 patient [2].
Mycosis fungoides with follicular mucinosis displaying aggressive tumor-stage transformation : successful treatment using radiation therapy plus oral bexarotene combination therapy [3].
