PURPOSE: This study was designed to investigate the capacities of verapamil, SDZ PSC 833, and SDZ 280-446 to decrease resistance of two multidrug-resistant cell lines to taxol [1].
The resistant KG1a and K562 sublines, which expressed high levels of Pgp, responded to low doses of the cyclosporin SDZ PSC 833, the cyclopeptolide SDZ 280-446, and the cyclopropyldibenzosuberane LY335979 with a dose-dependent growth inhibition [2].
Inhibition of dye transport by normal B cells required an approximately six-fold greater concentration of the synthetic peptolide SDZ 280-446 than was needed to optimally inhibit transport by myeloma B cells [3].
SDZ PSC 833 or SDZ 280-446 are strong blockers of the function of class I mdr gene-encoded P-glycoprotein molecules, which were developed for the reversal of multi-drug-resistance of tumor cells [4].
