In the human oral SCC-9 cancer cells, 5,7-dimethoxyflavone and 5,7,4'-trimethoxyflavone were both 10 times more potent inhibitors of cell proliferation (IC(50) values 5-8muM) than the corresponding unmethylated analogs chrysin and apigenin [1].
Among these, 5,7,4'-trimethoxyflavone (8) and 5,7,3',4'-tetramethoxyflavone (9) exhibited antiplasmodial activity against Plasmodium falciparum, with IC50 values of 3.70 and 4.06 microg/ml, respectively [2].
