In isolated mitochondria [1-14C]TTP is converted into 14CO2, radioactive malonic semialdehyde, and addition products of malonic semialdehyde [1].
Studies of these pathways in cultured cells from a patient with mitochondrial malonyl-CoA decarboxylase deficiency indicate that malonic semialdehyde is directly converted into acetyl-CoA in man [2].
Methylmalonic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency: demonstration of defective valine and beta-alanine metabolism and reduced malonic semialdehyde dehydrogenase activity in cultured fibroblasts [3].
