Disease relevance of sfaS

S fimbriae purified from recombinant Escherichia coli HB101(pANN801-13) bound strongly to extracellular matrices of cultured endothelial and epithelial cells; only poor binding was seen with the fimbriae purified from the sfaS mutant strain HB101(pANN801-1321) [1].

High impact information on sfaS

It was further shown that the amino-terminal protein sequence of the isolated SfaS protein was identical to the protein sequence calculated from the DNA sequence of the sfaS gene locus [2].
Certain of the newly detected VF genes, e.g., fyuA (yersiniabactin; 76%) and focG (F1C fimbriae; 25%), were as prevalent or more prevalent than their more familiar traditional counterparts, e.g., iut (aerobactin; 57%) and sfaS (S fimbriae; 14%), thus possibly offering additional useful targets for preventive interventions [3].
Two of the urinary isolates expressed S fimbriae, and all 16 urinary isolates contained the sfaS homologue gene on their chromosomes [4].
