Biological context of ATFER1

  • Southern blot experiments indicate that AtFer1 is likely to be encoded by a unique gene in the A. thaliana genome, although a search in the NCBI dbEST database indicates that other ferritin genes, divergent from AtFer1, may exist [5].
  • Our results show that IDRS mediates AtFer1 expression during dark-induced senescence while it does not affect AtFer1 expression during age-dependent senescence or in young seedlings [6].
  • Arabidopsis plants transformed with a 1,400-bp AtFer1 promoter, with either a wild-type or a mutated IDRS fused to the beta-glucuronidase (GUS) reporter gene, enabled us to analyze the activity of the AtFer1 promoter in different tissues as well as during age-dependent or dark-induced senescence [6].
 

Associations of ATFER1 with chemical compounds

  • Infiltration of the purified siderophores chrysobactin and desferrioxamine strongly increased AtFer1 transcript abundance and it did not occur with the iron-loaded forms of these siderophores [4].
