Gcs1p and the products of two newly identified genes, SPS18 and GLO3, constitute a family of novel Zn-finger proteins [1].
The yeast SPS19 gene encoding the peroxisomally targeted 2,4-dienoyl-CoA reductase shares its promoter region (291 bp) with the sporulation-specific gene SPS18 [2].
These genes are divergently controlled by the same promoter but with SPS18 expressed at four times the level of SPS19 [3].
