Nonetheless, mutation of the corA gene in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium leads to attenuation of virulence and other defects, even though the strain carries two additional Mg2+ transporters and the mutant exhibits no Mg2+-dependent growth deficit [1].

Inactivation of the corA gene restored Fe(II) resistance to the phoP mutant and eliminated uptake of Ni2+ [2].
Uptake of Mg2+ into corA expressing cells was strongly stimulated by nigericin, which increased the membrane potential DeltaPsi at the expense of DeltapH, and drastically reduced by valinomycin, which decreased the membrane potential DeltaPsi [3].
