A phase I trial of HuCNS-SC for infantile and late-infantile NCL has been initiated, following the March 2006 U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of StemCells' investigational new drug application [1].
The suitability of isosulfan blue, the 2,5 disulfonic acid isomer of Patent Blue, for this purpose was evaluated experimentally in the rat and clinically in 11 volunteers and 543 patients under an investigational new drug application [2].
Work has been conducted on polystyrene sulfonate, with the aim of filing an investigational new drug application (IND) in the USA [3].
