Disease relevance of Central African Republic

High impact information on Central African Republic

  • Diethylcarbamazine (300 mg) or placebo was taken orally once a week by Peace Corps volunteers serving in Gabon, Cameroon, and the Central African Republic. The participants were assessed clinically and with serologic and parasitologic testing before and yearly during their two years of service [6].
  • This mutation was identified in only one allele of the original 144 sequenced from an adult female Aka Pygmy from the Central African Republic; a second individual with the same variant allele was found by genotyping 58 additional Aka DNA samples [7].
  • In order to test the two hypotheses, we analyzed the variation of the hypervariable region 1 of the mitochondrial DNA in the Mbenzele, Western Pygmies of the Central African Republic, and compared our results with those of previous mtDNA and Y chromosome studies [8].
  • In contrast, the SMN2 gene has been detected in all extant human populations studied to date, including representatives from Europe, the Central African Republic, and the Congo [9].
  • Here we present the characterization of an HDV obtained from the liver of a woodchuck inoculated with sera from fulminant HDV patients in Central African Republic (CAR) [10].
