Inositol phosphates: Does IP(4) run a protection racket?

The phosphorylation of IP(3) by IP(3) 3-kinase leads to a number of physiological events, most of which are poorly understood. Recent findings about a hitherto unsuspected action of the IP(3) 3-kinase product, IP(4), suggest that the evolution of IP(3) 3-kinase may have even more far-reaching consequences than we thought.[1]
