Furthermore, purified SELB protein binds guanine nucleotides in a 1:1 molar ratio and specifically complexes selenocysteyl-tRNAUCA, but does not interact with seryl-tRNAUCA [1].
We report that co-expression of SBP2 overcomes the limitation produced by selenoprotein mRNA overexpression, whereas selenocysteyl-tRNA and the selenocysteine-specific elongation factor do not [2].
In bacteria, the selenocysteine-specific elongation factor SelB is necessary for incorporation of selenocysteine, the 21st amino acid, into proteins by the ribosome [3].
