Acute liver disease associated with sodium valproate.

Five patients, four of them children, had acute liver disease after treatment with sodium valproate. Three died. The liver disease began 3-6 months after the start of treatment and was often associated with other side-effects of sodium valproate such as thrombocytopenia and hair loss.[1]
