Two volatile constituents of male mouse urine, 2-(sec-butyl)-4,5-dihydrothiazole and dehydro-exo-brevicomin, were synthesized and tested for their ability to induce estrous cycle in female mice (the Whitten effect) [1].
NMR mapping of the recombinant mouse major urinary protein I binding site occupied by the pheromone 2-sec-butyl-4,5-dihydrothiazole [2].
This compound, which presented with the characteristic odor, was subsequently identified as 2-sec butyl-4,5-dihydrothiazole (DHT) by GC/MS/matrix isolation IR and NMR analyses [3].
2-sec-butyl-4,5-dihydrothiazole is a ligand for mouse urinary protein and rat alpha 2u-globulin: physiological and toxicological relevance [3].
