Hydrophobic interaction of the flanking phenol and N-methylpiperazine rings would afford a steric blockade of one additional base pair on each side [1].
Unexpectedly, one molecule (15d) bearing two N-methylpiperazine chains on both sides of this condensed pentacyclic skeleton fits into the minor groove of DNA and preferentially recognizes AT-rich sequences [2].
4-MSPA was identified and quantified as follows: the target compound was partially purified by solvent extraction from a urine sample spiked with N-methylpiperazine (N-MP) as an internal standard, then derivatized to a naphthylthiourea derivative with 1-naphthylisothiocyanate (NITC) and finally analyzed by HPLC [3].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of NSC 30195

The compound from N-methylpiperazine (7b) had excellent properties and is a candidate for clinical trials [4].
