Disease relevance of repB

Plasmids lacking a functional repB gene (which encodes the pLS1 initiator of replication RepB protein) could be established in Streptococcus pneumoniae only when RepB was supplied in trans [1].

High impact information on repB

The repB gene encoded a trans-acting, 23,000 Mr protein necessary for replication, and the tet gene encoded a very hydrophobic, 50,000 Mr protein required for tetracycline resistance [2].
The first two, repB and repC, are functional replicons hybridizing with IncFII and IncFI plasmids, respectively, neither exhibiting the segregational stability of the parent virulence plasmid [3].
