Here, the rhlR promoter region has been characterized and shown to present four different transcription start sites, two of which are included in the upstream gene (rhlB) coding region [1].
Using rhlA and rhlB mutants it was observed that swarming requires the expression of the rhlA gene but does not necessitate rhamnolipid production, as HAAs act as surfactants [2].
