Sequence analysis revealed that these aberrant mRNA species arose by alternative splicing due to the presence in the NZW strain of a 794-bp sequence insertion in the second intron, containing a cluster of short interspersed nucleotide elements [1].
The adducts, obtained by immunoprecipitation with anti-vimentin antibody, contained substantial quantities, not only of repetitive and mobile sequence elements such as centromeric satellite DNA, telomere DNA, microsatellites and minisatellites, long and short interspersed nucleotide elements, and retroposons, but also of mitochondrial (mt) DNA [2].
