Mental health. Taking a pounding.
Reduction in NHS beds for mental health patients has led to increasing use of the private sector. The cost of a bed in the private sector can be 75 per cent more than one in the NHS. The use of private beds diverts funding away from community mental health teams. Extensive use of private beds present problems for community mental health teams which struggle to keep track of patients.[1]References
