Two new saponins from the roots of Phytolacca esculenta.
Two triterpenoidal saponins having phytolaccagenin as the aglycone were isolated from the roots of Phytolacca esculenta (Phytolaccaceae). The structures of two new saponins, esculentoside I and esculentoside N, were established to be 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1----4)-beta-D- glucopyranosyl]-28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-phytolaccagenin and 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1----4)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl(1----4)-beta-D- glucopyranosyl]-28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosylphytolaccagenin, respectively, on the basis of spectroscopic and chemical evidence.[1]References
