A bacterium that has three pathways to regulate membrane lipid fluidity.

Well-studied bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli each have only a single pathway for synthesis of the unsaturated fatty acids required to make functional membrane lipids. In marked contrast, unsaturated fatty acid synthesis in Pseudomonas aeruginosa proceeds by three distinct pathways.[1]
