Pupillary response to topical tropicamide as a marker for Alzheimer's disease.

The mydriatic response to eyedrops of the anticholinergic drug tropicamide at very low concentration (0.01%) was studied in subjects with Alzheimer's disease (AD, n = 10) and multi-infarct dementia (MID, n = 10). There was no significant difference in pupillary response between the two groups. The test is unlikely to be useful in differentiating different types of dementia.[1]
