Intrapericardial interferon in the management of malignant pericardial effusion.

A patient with pericardial tamponade secondary to malignant pericardial effusion underwent pericardiocentesis followed by intrapericardial instillation of recombinant interferon alfa-2b (INTRON A; Schering-Plough; Kenilworth, NJ). The patient subsequently received a full course of chemotherapy and radiation therapy for her primary malignant tumor and experienced no recurrence of the pericardial effusion.[1]
