High impact information on Dihydroperillic acid

Although POH could not be detected in plasma, two of its metabolites, dihydroperillic acid (DHPA) and perillic acid (PA), were measured in plasma and urine on days 1 and 15 after the first and last doses of POH, respectively [1].
Its principal circulating metabolites identified in the rat, perillic acid and dihydroperillic acid, are also effective inhibitors of isoprenylation and cellular proliferation in vitro (17, 18) [2].
We have previously reported that limonene, perillic acid, and dihydroperillic acid inhibit the posttranslational isoprenylation of p21ras and other 21- to 26-kDa cell-growth-associated proteins in NIH3T3 cells and in mammary epithelial cells [3].
The peak plasma concentration and the metabolite half-life were 2 h and 1 h post ingestion for perillic acid, and 4 h and 2.4 h for dihydroperillic acid, respectively [4].
