Disease relevance of ectoine

Two novel compounds, 2-methyl, 4-carboxy, 5-hydroxy-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine (THP(A] and 2-methyl, 4-carboxy-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine (THP(B] have been identified in the pool of Streptomyces parvulus by in vivo and in vitro studies [1].

High impact information on ectoine

During cell growth in a chemically defined medium supplemented with 0.5 M NaCl, tetrahydropyrimidine derivatives (THPs), 2-methyl-4-carboxy-5-hydroxy-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine [THP(A)] and, to a lesser extent, 2-methyl-4-carboxy-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine [THP(B)], were found to accumulate in a significant amount in all bacteria examined [2].

Associations of ectoine with other chemical compounds

Each of these bacterial species also contains an ectABC ectoine biosynthetic gene cluster, suggesting that 5-hydroxyectoine biosynthesis strictly depends on the prior synthesis of ectoine [3].
