Sequence analysis also showed that the R. leguminosarum nifA gene is followed by nifB and preceded by fixC with an open reading frame inserted in between [1].
Two open reading frames (ORF) were found downstream of fixC [2].
It is unlikely that fixA, fixC and nifO are involved in electron transport to nitrogenase [3].
Site-directed Tn5 mutagenesis was performed to obtain Tn5 insertions in fixB and fixC [3].
