Both orientations of Tn10 insertion in ilvD exert absolute polarity on ilvA expression [1].
Analysis of distal gene expression in these polar insertion mutants revealed the existence of two constitutive interval promoters, one preceding ilvE and the other preceding ilvD [2].

Biological context of ilvD

Expression of ilvA is known to be dependent on effective translation of ilvD, perhaps reflecting the lack of a ribosome binding site proximal to the ilvA sequence [1].
