In October 1998, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) launched a pilot project to learn about the role of public libraries in providing health information to the public and to generate information that would assist NLM and the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) in learning how best to work with public libraries in the future [1].
The Large Scale Vocabulary Test, sponsored by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR), was conducted to determine the extent to which a combination of existing health-related terminologies cover vocabulary needed in health care information systems [2].
In 1993, the National Library of Medicine (NLM), in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute (NCI), developed a Compact Disc Interactive (CD-i) program: "Cervical Cancer: Screening For Life." This was NLM's first experience in developing for an all-digital interactive medium, containing motion video, graphic images, and text [3].
The latest release of GRATEFUL MED offers medical libraries an opportunity to monitor searching patterns of end users searching the databases of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) [4].
