Intravenous verapamil blunts hyperdynamic responses during electroconvulsive therapy without altering seizure activity.

IMPLICATIONS: A dose of 0.1 mg/kg of verapamil, administered immediately before anesthesia, significantly reduces the increase in peak heart rate and mean arterial blood pressure after electroconvulsive therapy. Furthermore, the administration of verapamil does not reduce the duration of the seizure.[1]
