Amino acids and the humoral regulation of growth: fat bodies use slimfast.

The mechanisms by which animals coordinate the growth of different tissues in response to nutrient levels is poorly understood. In this issue of Cell, Colombani et al. demonstrate that amino acid-responsive TOR signaling in the Drosophila fat body modulates insulin signaling and growth in peripheral tissues.[1]
