Sequence and structural analysis of the alpha- and beta-dinitrogenase subunits of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans.

The structural genes (nifD and nifK) for the alpha and beta subunits of the molybdenum-iron (MoFe) protein of the Thiobacillus ferrooxidans dinitrogenase have been sequenced. The Mr values deduced from the nucleotide sequences are 54,919 and 57,901 for the alpha and beta subunits, respectively. The amino acid sequences of both subunits were quantitatively compared with the equivalent subunits from other bacteria. Distinct areas of amino acid homology were found between the alpha and beta subunits of T. ferrooxidans.[1]
