A novel synthesis of carbocyclic C-nucleoside precursors by nonoxidative C-C bond fission.

New carbocyclic c-nucleoside precursors have been synthesized in stereocontrolled manner by nonoxidative C-C bond fission (i.e., Grob fragmentation or retrograde aldol reaction) starting from Diels-Alder adducts of cyclopentadiene with 3-acetoxyacrylates or dimethyl 2-acetoxymethylenemalonate.[1]
