Studies of ultimobranchial body of Rana cyanophlyctis in response to experimental hypercalcaemia.

Hypercalcaemia (induced by calcium-rich environment and vitamin D2 treatment) activates the ultimobranchial body of Rana cyanophlyctis. This is expressed by hyperplasia of follicular cells, formation of secondary follicles and increased vascular supply to the UBB. This activity of the gland is to counteract hypercalcaemia.[1]
