Synthesis of collagen and sulfated glycosaminoglycans by normal and scleroderma fibroblasts in culture, with and without addition of cyclofenil.

The influence of the synthetic weak estrogen cyclofenil was studied in vitro on skin fibroblasts from scleroderma patients, normals, and human embryos. The drug had no effect on the synthesis of sulfated glycosaminoglycans or collagen. Collagen synthesis was lower in scleroderma fibroblasts than in normal cells, whereas there was no difference in sulfated glycosaminoglycans synthesis.[1]
