Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Pharmacology and clinical implications in anaesthesia and critical care medicine.

The newer, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are increasingly used in psychiatry in both children and adults. Although they have fewer side-effects, they can cause significant physiological changes and drug interactions which have implications for the anaesthetist and the critical care physician, especially the potential to induce the serotonin syndrome.[1]
