Similarly, UDP-dialdehyde inhibits sperm binding to the zona pellucida and sperm surface galactosyl-transferase activity to identical degrees [1].
Second, selective inhibition of surface galactosyltransferase with UDP-dialdehyde also inhibits adhesion, while similar levels of AMP-dialdehyde do not [2].
Although under physiological conditions this enzyme utilizes a CMP-sugar as substrate, it was found that UDP-dialdehyde was an effective inhibitor of SAT-1 activity [3].
This transport mechanism can be blocked by covalent attachment of a non-permeant inhibitor UDP-dialdehyde without affecting the N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase itself [4].
