The radical intensity of eugenol in 50% dimethylsulfoxide with 0.1 M sodium bicarbonate buffer (pH 9.5) was dose-dependently reduced by 2-ethoxybenzoic acid, whereas it was enhanced by acetylsalicylic acid [1].
In this experiment, various compounds such as redox-initiator, photo-initiator or photo-sensitizer, inhibitor, root-canal disinfectant, cement-base materials (eugenol and 2-ethoxybenzoic acid) etc., were investigated [2].
Exposure to IRM (a ZnO eugenol-based intermediate restorative material), a 2-ethoxybenzoic acid cement (Super EBA), and amalgam for 3 days inhibited the MDH activity of PDL fibroblasts as indicated by decrease in 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) reduction by 97%, 95%, and 51%, respectively [3].
