We found that sipA, sopE, and, to a lesser degree, sopE2 contribute to murine colitis, but we could not assign an inflammation phenotype to sopB [1].
SopE, which is 70% identical to sopE2 is only present in some Salmonella strains and emerged later well after the divergence of the contemporary Salmonella lineages [2].
