High impact information on tRNA-Cys

  • The transcripts of the genes for tRNAThrACN and tRNACys (the tRNA genes immediately downstream from the 21S rRNA gene) have been analyzed; the possibility that these species represent primary transcripts is considered, and potential sites for initiation of transcription of the clustered tRNA genes are discussed [1].
  • The levels of the tRNAs varied even more markedly, ranging from 4200 copies/cell for the tRNAPhe to 240 copies/cell for the tRNACys after growth in derepressive conditions and from 800 copies/cell for the tRNAfMet to 30 copies/cell for the tRNACys of glucose repressed yeast [2].
  • The strengths of the promoters of the genes were ordered: tRNAMetf greater than tRNAPhe greater than 14 S rRNA greater than 21 S rRNA greater than tRNAGlu greater than Oli-1 much greater than tRNACys [3].
  • 5. Chromatography of tRNA Cys on Bio-Gel P100 polyacrylamide beads afforded two components one of which was far less efficient than the other in accepting cysteine [4].
