The F-box protein FBX4 targets PIN2/TRF1 for ubiquitin-mediated degradation and regulates telomere maintenance [2].
Thus, Fbx4 may play a critical role in telomere maintenance [2].
In contrast, inhibition of Fbx4 by RNA interference stabilizes Pin2/TRF1 and promotes telomere shortening, thereby impairing cell growth [2].
The interaction with FBX4 was enhanced by mimicking phosphorylation of alphaB-crystallin at both Ser-19 and Ser-45 (S19D/S45D), but not at other combinations [1].
