Disease relevance of DIABLO

  • Increased incubation temperature (42 degrees C) and treatment with half of the prescribed amount of cefixime-tellurite by BAM for SMAC agar in enrichment step were the most effective in selectively growing E. coli O157:H7 [1].

High impact information on DIABLO

  • Indole positives colonies were plated on SMAC agar with 20 microg/ml nalidixic acid (SMACnal) [2].
  • MacConkey medium containing sorbitol, tellurite and cefixime (TC-SMAC) permitted the growth of VT+ E. coli O157 and Shigella sonnei but partially or completely inhibited the growth of 67% of other strains of E. coli and all or most strains of other sorbitol-non-fermenting species tested [3].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of DIABLO

  • METHODS AND RESULTS: Minced beef and bovine hide were inoculated with varying concentrations (log(10) 1.58-2.58 CFU g(-1) and log(10) 2.42-4.49 CFU 100 cm(2) respectively) of E. coli O157:H7 and recovered using a direct plate method or an enrichment/immunomagnetic separation (IMS) method and then plated onto SMAC or SMAC-CT in both cases [4].
