High impact information on BOLA1

  • 7. Electron microscopy of tungsten replicas of thrombospondin reveals a tripartite structure resembling a "bola" which is about 60 nm across when fully extended [1].
  • The BolA-like proteins seem to be involved in cell proliferation or cell-cycle regulation, but the molecular function is still unknown [2].
  • Mixtures composed of water, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and a bolaform surfactant with two aza-crown ethers as polar headgroups (termed Bola C-16) were investigated by modulating the mole ratios between the components [3].
  • Amino acids, di- and polyamines (putresceine, spermine, spermidine) and one amino alcohol were in particular used to generate glycothiopeptidic or precursors of "bola" structures [4].
