Happy end in sight after 70 years of controversy.
Differential auxin transport from the columella to lateral root cap cells as a result of root gravitropism has recently been shown using a GFP-based auxin biosensor. Together with the recent finding of gravity-dependent localization of an auxin efflux carrier, these results strongly support the Cholodny-Went hypothesis for the tropic response, which has been disputed for 70 years.[1]References
