Characterization of duck genome fragments containing beta and epsilon globin genes.

We have isolated two allelic duck-genomic DNA fragments containing beta-type globin genes. The beta- and epsilon-globin genes are 1800 bp apart in both fragments, have second introns of 1100 and 1200 bp, respectively, and small first introns. We have also determined approx. 550 nucleotides of the sequence on the 5' side of the beta-globin gene. Comparison with the chicken beta-globin gene suggests sequences of possible significance to gene expression.[1]
