Transient cortical blindness in an infant exposed to methamphetamine.

An 11-month-old boy was brought to the pediatric emergency department for evaluation of acute onset of irritability and involuntary side-to-side turning of the head. Neurologic examination revealed cortical blindness. Toxicologic studies of blood and urine were positive for methamphetamine. The infant's vision and activity returned to normal within 12 hours. The possible mechanisms of this unusual form of amphetamine toxicity are discussed.[1]
