Disease relevance of algD

A protein fusion of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa algD gene, coding for GDPmannose dehydrogenase, and the truncated xylE gene cassette was used to verify the putative coding region and translational signals predicted from the algD nucleotide sequence [1].

High impact information on algD

The library screen revealed the porin-encoding gene oprQ and the alginate biosynthesis gene algD occurring under negative control of ColR [2].
The WCS358 strain is not producing alginate, but we demonstrated by Southern analysis that it also possesses, in addition to pprA and pprB, algD and algU (algT) gene homologs, two genes essential for alginate biosynthesis [3].

Biological context of algD

Binding of ColR to the promoter regions of oprQ and algD in vitro confirmed its direct involvement in regulation of these genes [2].
