Disease relevance of Mx1

However, this protein differs from mouse Mx1 protein, in that it also inhibits vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), a rhabdovirus [1].
One of the rat cDNAs is termed Mx1 because it is most closely related to the mouse Mx1 cDNA and because it codes for a nuclear protein that, like the mouse Mx1 protein, inhibits influenza virus growth [1].

Using Western blot analysis and real-time qPCR, we determined that neonatal rat astrocyte cultures constitutively express TLR3 mRNA and protein, and that PIC dsRNA induced phosphorylation of eIF2alpha, as well as mRNA type I interferon (alpha/beta IFN)-response genes Mx1, PKR, and TLR3 [2].
