Disease relevance of blaZ

  • The induction of the Staphylococcus aureus BlaZ and Bacillus licheniformis 749/I BlaP beta-lactamases by beta-lactam antibiotics occurs according to similar processes [1].

High impact information on blaZ

  • This gene fusion arrangement, which permitted monitoring of RepC production (as BlaZ activity) by plasmids using the protein for their own replication, demonstrated a linear relationship, with one exception, between RepC production and plasmid copy number over a 20-fold range [2].
  • A novel plasmid (designated pUB102) harbouring far1, tetK and blaZ was characterised and partially sequenced [3].
  • BlaZ could be transferred from the 4 isolates with plasmid location whereas it was not possible to transfer blaZ from 3 isolates with chromosomal location of the gene [4].
