Vector-mediated short-hairpin RNA interference against NRF-2alpha reduced all 10 COX nuclear subunit mRNAs and mRNAs of other genes involved in mitochondrial function/biogenesis [1].
These results strongly indicate that both NRF-2alpha and NRF-2beta respond to increased neuronal activity by translocating from the cytoplasm to the nucleus, where they engage in transcriptional activation of target genes [2].
